Blue Shield of Californina Individual Health Plans and The Affordable Care Act

Open enrollment for Health Care Reform policies begins on October 1, 2013.

This is what I know as of August 14, 2013  and is subject to change.

Blue Shield will your manage you plan in one of two ways;

If you purchased your policy before March 23, 2010 your policy is grandfathered. You may keep your policy. It will not have all the benefits of a Health Care Reform policy. The premium should be less than a Health Care Reform policy and the network of providers should remain intact. If you want to discuss moving to a Health Care Reform policy please call me in October and read on for information on these policies.

If you have purchased your policy after March 23, 2010 you will be migrated to a new Health Care Reform policy which is the closest benefit to your current policy. This automatic migration may not be the cost effective choice for you. Call me in October to review options.

The Health Care Reform Policies might have higher premiums than you now pay and it seems that every company on the market is shrinking the network of providers. Your doctors and hospitals you prefer may no longer be covered.

The ONLY reason for you to make a choice to enroll in Covered California, the Health Insurance Exchange/Marketplace is to receive a subsidy based on income. I will have this information available for you.

IT IS ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL THAT YOU CONTACT ME AFTER OCTOBER 1, 2013 TO ADVISE YOU ON WHETHER YOU SHOULD ENROLL IN “COVERED CALIFORNIA” THE HEALTH CARE EXCHANGE/MARKETPLACE OR OTHER AVAILABLE OPTIONS.
