Aetna pulls out of California Individual Health Insurance Market

Aetna has decided to pull out of the California individual market effective January 1, 2014 when major provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) take effect. As of now Aetna will remain in the group marketplace.

The health care companies that will participate in the individual market place Covered California will be;

  • Anthem Blue Cross
  • Blue Shield of California
  • Alameda Alliance for Health
  • Chinese Community Health Plan
  • Contra Costa Health Services
  • Health Net
  • Kaiser Permanente
  • LA Care Health Plan
  • Molina Health Plan
  • Sharp Health Plan
  • Valley Health Plan
  • Ventura County Health Care Plan
  • Western Health Advantage

Cigna will continue to offer individual insurance plans outside the Insurance Exchange/Marketplace.
